The Radar Festival Midnight Run

The Radar Festival Midnight Run:

‘Not All Those Who Wander Are Lost’ and ‘Discover After Dark’ are slogans to describe a typical Midnight Run, an event pioneered and hosted by Inua Ellams that gathers complete strangers to play, walk, explore and reclaim the streets and hidden spaces in cities.

This Midnight Run in collaboration with Bush Theatre, will begin at the theatre at 5.45pm and explore the surrounding neighbourhoods, basketball courts, playgrounds, courtyards and parks until midnight. Participants are advised to dress for the weather, bring money for food and above all a healthy sense of adventure. As always the run features artists local to the area and we have:

Nathan Bryon is a 22 year old actor / writer / filmmaker. He co-owns Kool Beanz Productions with long time collaborator Stuart Mackenzie. Kool Beanz have focused on comedy over the last few years, creating the ‘Mackenzie and Bryon Show’. Last summer, the team made three short films: ‘Blocks’ with Sheila Hancock James Purefoy and Ewan Stewart, written and by Nathan and Stuart, ‘Maybe In Lisbon’ for the Bush Theatre and Romeo and Juliet with First Rung Theatre company. Nathan is currently writing episodes for CBBC’s hit show Rastamouse and as part of the Radar Festival, his play Negril Beach will be run on November 14th at the Bush Theatre.

Yrsa Daley-Ward is an actor, writer and poet of mixed West Indian and West African heritage, born and raised in Lancashire and now living in London. Drawing heavily on her own experiences, Yrsa interweaves each discipline to fuse poetry with theatre, music and storytelling and has been writing for as long as she can remember. Her debut collection of short stories ‘On Snakes and Other Stories’, is published by 3:AM Press. Yrsa has performed her work at several theatre and performance spaces in London including the Soho and Lyric theatre, Rich Mix and the Albany. Her poetry has also been exhibited at the Tate Modern.

Yasmine Akim is a freelance photojournalist based in London. She has a background in art and design and is currently studying a BA in photography at the London College of Communication. She started working as a house photographer for the Roundhouse Studios before she was 18. Since then she has documented the Turning Point Festival, Bestival and several artists including Flying Lotus, Echo and the Bunnymen and a metropolis screening with the London Contemporary Orchestra. She has exhibited her work at the Roundhouse, The London College of Communication and the Rich Mix. She has also worked for the satirical cult publication FUN Magazine launched by the art collective Real Gold and printed by Ditto Press.

Jamie Rocha Allan trained as an actor originally at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. After graduating he completed an MFA at Birkbeck University in Theatre Directing. He has just finished at the Globe as a text assistant on Macbeth and before that he was at the RSC as an Assistant Director and Director. He has also worked as Associate Director on Frantic Assembly’s Othello, and has directed in a variety of drama schools and theatres in London. Along with Zoo Nation’s Musical Director, Dj Walde, Jamie is Co-Artistic Director of the Howl Back Brothers

Spoke Water Walk Midnight Run:

‘Not All Those Who Wander Are Lost’ and ‘Discover After Dark’ are slogans to describe a typical Midnight Run, an event pioneered and hosted by Inua Ellams that gathers complete strangers to play, walk, explore and reclaim the streets and hidden spaces in cities. This Midnight Run in partnership with A New Direction, Apples and Snakes and Spread the Word (SPOKE) will focus on National Day’s Theme of Water. We will begin at Hackney Town Hall at 5.45pm and explore the surrounding neighbourhoods, basketball courts, playgrounds, courtyards, parks and Canals until midnight. ‘Participants’ are advised to dress for the weather, wear comfortable shoes, bring a pen, a lighter, cash for food, an old newspaper and above all a healthy sense of adventure. Poet: Raymond Antrobus:

Raymond Antrobus is a Spoken Word poet and educator, born and bred in Hackney. He is co-curator of popular London poetry events Chill Pill (Soho Theatre and The Albany) and Keats House Poets. Filmmaker: Michael Garrett:

Recently moved to Hackney, Michael is still finding his London legs and discovering the quirky cultural gems that encrust its crown. He started making films with his sister Kate only one year ago, but has already received widespread recognition from numerous competitions festivals including a runner-up position at London’s HELD Festival and second place at FilmPoem Festival. Photographer: Giordano Di Pino-Forino

Giordano Di Pino-Forino is a London born photographer of Italian heritage. He studied at St Charles Sixth Form where he developed his love of photography. He finished A Level courses attaining ABB grades. Singer/Songwriter: Alex Mills.

Alex Mills made a name for herself in working with some of the UK’s finest. From Wretch 32 Black & Tinchy Stryder to featuring on Tricky’s ‘Puppy Toy’ which she debuted on Jools Holland. She co-wrote and featured on one of the biggest selling house tracks of 2012 'Miguel Campbells Something Special’ and more recently in 2013 'Crying Wolf’ with No Artificial Colours. This year she landed a number 1 in the Trax source chart with her collaboration with Joey Negro, a sync to American TV series Drop Dead Diva and further collaborations.
